Simple Past Tense
一般过去时(Simple Past Tense)用于描述过去某一明确时间发生并已经结束的动作、状态或事件。它常与 yesterday, last week, in 2019, two years ago, when I was a child 等过去时间状语连用。在 PTE Academic 和 IELTS 写作、口语中,一般过去时常用于描述个人经历、历史事实、实验过程、数据变化以及过去的研究结果。中国学习者需要特别注意动词过去式形式、助动词 did 后使用动词原形、以及过去时间语境中不要误用现在完成时。

一般过去时的核心是“动作或状态发生在过去,并且已经结束”。普通实义动词在肯定句中使用过去式,例如 worked, studied, developed;不规则动词需要单独记忆,例如 went, made, found, became。否定句和疑问句中使用助动词 did,此时主要动词必须还原为原形,例如 did not go,而不是 did not went。若谓语是 be 动词,则根据主语使用 was 或 were,不再使用 did。

描述过去某一明确时间发生的动作
当句子中出现明确的过去时间,如 yesterday, last month, in 2018, three days ago 时,通常使用一般过去时。该用法在 IELTS Writing Task 1 描述过去年份的数据、PTE Summarize Written Text 概括历史事件时很常见。

描述过去的状态或身份
一般过去时不仅表示动作,也可以表示过去存在的状态、身份、位置或情况。此时常用 was 或 were,尤其适用于口语中介绍过去经历,或写作中描述过去背景。

这座城市在19世纪是一个重要的工业中心。

叙述过去连续发生的一系列事件

报告过去研究、实验或调查结果
在学术英语中,如果某项研究、实验或调查已经完成,描述其方法和发现时通常使用一般过去时。这一点在 IELTS Writing Task 2 引用研究、PTE Writing 概括材料时非常重要。
A recent survey found that remote workers reported higher job satisfaction.
一项近期调查发现,远程工作者报告了更高的工作满意度。

助动词 did 已经体现过去时,后面的实义动词必须使用原形 go,不能再使用过去式 went。中国学习者常因“过去时要加过去式”的思维而重复标记时态。

Correct
✅ She went to Australia last year.
last year 是明确的过去时间状语,谓语动词需要使用过去式。go 的过去式是不规则形式 went。

主语 they 是复数,过去时 be 动词应使用 were,而不是 was。was 用于 I, he, she, it 或单数名词。

一般疑问句中使用 Did 后,主要动词必须用原形 finish。不能写成 Did he finished。

in 2019 表示一个已经结束的过去时间点或时间段,应使用一般过去时。现在完成时通常不与明确的过去时间连用。

yesterday 表明时间在过去,be 动词应从 am 改为 was。描述过去状态时也要使用过去时。

在被动结构中,两个并列动词都应使用过去分词。英式英语中常写 analysed,美式英语为 analyzed。PTE 和 IELTS 都接受两种拼写,但同一篇文章中应保持一致。

看到明确过去时间状语,如 yesterday, last year, in 2020, two decades ago,优先判断是否应使用一般过去时。
在 PTE 口语复述中,如果讲座内容讲的是已完成的研究或历史事件,使用 found, showed, argued, developed, changed 等过去式动词更自然。
写作中引用已完成研究时,不要机械使用 present perfect;若有明确过去时间或研究已结束,通常用一般过去时。
检查否定句和疑问句时,重点确认 did 后面的动词是否为原形,例如 did not increase, did the figure rise。
